You’ll especially enjoy it if you’re:
Someone building a business or leading a team and want to do it with integrity
An entrepreneur who believes culture matters as much as growth
A dreamer who’s been knocked down but still believes in starting again
A leader who values people over profit
Anyone who loves a good story about faith, grit, and redemption on the Gulf Coast

Hey guys, it’s Ron.
I wrote Shaggy's Cheeseburgers to remind folks that doing what’s right still matters. It’s a story of losing everything, rebuilding from nothing, and putting people first, even when every “business expert” said it was the wrong move.
If you’ve ever run a business, you know doing the right thing doesn’t always show up on a profit sheet, but it’s what builds something that lasts.
If you need a little hope, or just a good story about grit, faith, and second chances, I think you’ll find it here.
“Do the right thing, even when nobody’s watching — especially when it costs you.” — Ron Ladner

Not just a restaurant, but a family
This isn’t just a story about food — it’s about culture, comfort, and the simple rituals that connect people. The author leans into humor and heart, blending mouthwatering descriptions of cheeseburgers with character-driven storytelling that feels both ridiculous and strangely profound. At times, it reads like a love letter to fast food; at others, it sneaks in commentary on friendship, memory, and the way small pleasures shape our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, true life story...Shaggy's is a good read.
Ron Ladner takes you on his personal journey, shaped by disasters, sculpted by persistence and built on a damn good cheeseburger. It is a lesson in history, resiliency, and leadership. It’s raw and honest, dragging the reader through life’s natural and man-made disasters. It’s peppered with rescues and recovery, followed by love and loss. You’ll see names of places and people you know, or wish you’d met. Ladner introduces you to a girl named Laura, a boat captain named Rimmer, a bunch of rescue dogs, a few orphaned elephants. He takes you along as he develops five waterfront restaurants with a make ‘em happy vibe, cutting-edge technology, and a quest to value employees. He invests all he has—personally, emotionally, and financially—in his community, family, and Shaggy’s. He wins. He loses. He fishes. He keeps the faith. It’s all here

Not just a restaurant, but a family
This book was a phenomenal read; I could not put it down once I started. As a native of The Pass, I was more excited than anything to read this book. Upon reading, I quickly noticed that this book is about more than just a cheeseburger or the restaurant. It is more of a memoir of what determination, persistence, and good ole' fashioned morals can get you in life.
Starting the book, I quickly saw that Ron was someone who grew up humbled and knew the things that mattered most in life, family and faith. This book moves between Ron's upbringing, Hurricane Katrina, and how Shaggy's becomes "Shaggy's".
Reading the stories of Hurricane Katrina instantly took me back to August 29, 2005, and the devastation I (we all) felt then. His testimonies of the community coming together were exactly that! It didn't matter where you lived on the Gulf Coast; we were all there to help each other. That is what The Pass is all about: coming together as one in times of devastation.

Both. It’s a true story about life, leadership, and rebuilding after loss. You’ll find lessons every business owner can use, but it’s written in a way anyone can relate to.
Not at all. This book is for anyone who believes doing what’s right still matters — whether you’re leading a company, a team, or your own family.
You’ll learn how putting people first can build a culture that lasts, how to lead with heart, and how faith and integrity can carry you through any storm.
It’s rooted in faith and character, but it’s not preachy. It’s honest, practical, and full of real-life lessons
Because it’s not theory — it’s a story that proves success isn’t about shortcuts or hype. It’s about people.
